Ok, typical me, jumped in WAY too far too quickly.
I did not even need a custom PatternParser, just a local variable in the
properties file.
#custom properties
instanceId=PC1
log4j.appender.stdout.layout.ConversionPattern=%d{ISO8601} ${instanceId}
[%t] %-5p %c - %m%n
Done...
