Two suggestions: - Use SocketHubAppender and SocketHubReceiver instead (tomcat will open a socket and allow connections to come in, but won't block waiting for a connection, OR - Use VFS/LogFilePatternReceiver to tail and parse the tomcat log file (works really well - you can even delete the log file and Chainsaw will continue to tail the file, if configured with the correct params) If you don't mind possibly losing messages, you could use UDPAppender or MulticastAppender - neither of them block.
