You could use the Jabber Remoting Channel
(http://www.ingorammer.com/Software/OpenSourceRemoting/JabberChannel.htm
l) with the RemotingAppender, but that probably isn't what you really
want.

Or use a library like Jabber-net
http://jabberstudio.org/projects/jabber-net/project/view.php to write a
custom appender.

As for SMS you may be able to find an email to SMS gateway and therefore
be able to use the SmtpAppender. A native SMS appender would either need
to use a API to talk to a provider that sends the SMS messages, or use
an API to talk to the serial port to drive a phone to send the SMS
messages.
