Hi!
NLogViewer still requires a lot of work but is already usable for quick
viewing needs with both log4net and NLog (http://www.nlog-project.org). It
parses and displays log4j xml-formatted messages received over the following
protocols
UDP on port 4000
TCP on port 4001
SMTP on port 25 (using nDumbster)
(You can modify the ports after you first start NLogViewer by looking into
files in:
"C:\Documents and Settings\....\Local Settings\Application Data\NLogViewer")
I've recently created a separate subversion repository for NLogViewer:
http://svn.nlog-project.org/repos/nlog/trunk/NLogViewer/
If you prefer the zip files, you can get NLogViewer source code with NLog as
an added bonus from:
http://svn.nlog-project.org/snapshots/nlog-latest.zip
Use Visual Studio.NET 2003 or NAnt 0.85 to build it. It should be pretty
straightforward. If you have some spare time and you'd like to work on
NLogViewer to be more useful, contact me, preferably on the NLog mailing
list. The license is BSD.
Any feedback from the log4net community is welcome.

NLog has a native .NET WinForm app for viewing log4j compatible data.
Here's a quick demo showing IBatisNet's Log4Net adapter working with
it:

Hi Richard!
I would very much like to see what you have. I will do my best to
give you
constructive feedback...
There are two major log viewers out there today;
Chainsaw (http://logging.apache.org/log4j/docs/chainsaw.html) - which
in my
opinion is too focused on log4j and an Apache/Java environment
L4N Dashboard (http://www.l4ndash.com/) - An elegant solution, but
unfortunately not freeware
So your viewer definitely has a space to fill.
Sincerely,

Subject: Log4Net Viewer
Hi,
I (and the company I work for) have been using Log4Net for over a
year now
and have been very happy with the tool. The biggest issue we have
faced is
the lack of a native log viewer. Over the last couple of weeks I
have been
working at home to build a viewer. While I am not done, I am at the
point
where feedback on how it works and suggests would be usefull. So I
was
wondering if anyone was in need of a viewer and/or interested in
testing it
out. I also am not sure where/how/if I am going to release it, so
help and
suggestions there would also be great.
So if you are interested, just send me an email and I will send you
the
source.
Richard
PS: Thanks again for the great logging system.
PPS: It currently only supports log4net xml files, I planning on
doing the
log4J xml files and maybe other appenders.
