You can actually configure the UdpAppender to talk to the log4j Chainsaw2 (from log4j CVS). There isn't a SocketAppender in the current distribution but is should be straightforward to implement one.
There is a project on sourceforge to provide a UDP client http://sourceforge.net/projects/netlogclient/ I have not used it so I cannot comment on if features.
