The RemotingAppender in beta 8 send events synchronously. This is causing
the slowdown you are seeing as the RemotingAppender is failing to connect to
the server. This has been changed in the CVS version of log4net to force the
RemotingAppender to send all events asynchronously. You may want to get the
latest RemotingAppender from CVS and recompile log4net.
