You have to supply the full type info.  Assuming your appender is in a
DLL called ActiveSentry.dll, try the following:

<appender name="ADONetAppender"
type="log4net.ActiveSentryADONetAppender, ActiveSentry">

(off the top of my head, the order might be reversed)
