SPL is a standard library in PHP, which is active since 5.0. It cannot be
disabled anymore as of PHP 5.3.
SPL provides a native implementation of objects like "ArrayObject" or several
design patterns like Iterator. Since it is nativly written, its at a good
speed. Using this would reduce the necessary &-"pointers" in PHP code, which is
need for passing array through methods. Additionally its more object oriented
and helps for readability.
It needs to be checked were SPL is appropriate and Log4PHP needs to be patched.
