What would the alternative be? You already have a process in place to
get artifacts into Maven Central. How would a separate project do that?
Well, I guess one or more volunteers who wanted to manage
logback-extensions could publish it under some new name, say
http://logback-extensions.org or http://logbackframework.org.
Stretching it further, the extensions could be published under an FOSS
organization, e.g. FSF, Eclipse or Apache. I certainly do not
encourage these venues but they do exist as alternatives.
