The 100ms wait may not be enough to give the MyAppender thread a lead start, especially if your CPU is busy or slow. To test event loos, you need a much more precise synchronization mechanism, for a example a CountDownLatch or similar.
In the mean time I am closing this issue as WORKS FOR ME.
