Vem ai um extrato do prefacio: This is a special issue of Logica Universalis on the question Is logic universal? A general and ambiguous question. To help the contributors, the following five more specific questions were put forward in the call for papers. 1. Do all human beings have the same capacity of reasoning? Do men, women, children, Papuans, yuppies, reason in the same way? 2. Does reasoning evolve? Did human beings reason in the same way two centuries ago? In the future will human beings reason in the same way? Are computers changing our way of reasoning? Is a mathematical proof independent of time and culture? 3. Do we reason in different ways depending on the situation? Do we use the same logic for everyday life, in physics, and in questions to do with the economy? 4. Do the different systems of logic reflect the diversity of reasoning? 5. Is there any absolute true way of reasoning? These five questions are easy to understand but it is much more difficult to properly answer them. No direct answers to these questions are given by the standard modern logician, considered as a woman or a man studying a particular logical system, e.g. propositional classical logic, or a collection of systems, e.g. modal logics, or a logical theory, e.g. proof theory. But these questions are important to understand what we are doing when developing logic. They are important for the logician’s consciousness. Is Logica Universal?
