Dear friends and colleagues The Logic Group in Milan is soon advertising a Post-Doc Position (2years, renewable for 2 more years) in the broad area of Logic and AI. Our Group currently counts 10 members among permanent staff, post-docs and PhDs. We do logic motivated by the goal of understanding reasoning, both human and artificial. We call what we do logics for practical reasoning. The logic we do is applied to problems of rational reasoning and whenever possible we aim at building logics representing the sort of reasoning which realistic, as opposed to highly idealised, agents are capable of performing. http://www.filosofia.unimi.it/logic/ For this position we will be looking for a candidate in any area relevant to the (sub-)symbolic analysis of reasoning by Intelligent Artificial agents, and its interaction with statistical methods. We are interested in the logical foundations of probabilities, reasoning under uncertainty and with limited resources and capabilities, multi-agent systems and their verification. Properties we are interested in modelling and studying are among others: causality, fairness and trustworthiness in AI. We hope to advertise before the summer and hold interviews early in Autumn, for a possible start of contract in December 2021 or January 2022. We offer an exciting research environment, in a culturally lively city and a decent salary (around 2k net monthly). We foresee the possibility of flexible working arrangements.
