Hi Stuart,

I cannot find the lenient and retrypartial parameters. Are they new to v2.11?

Thanks,
Gene

Subject: Re: [LON-CAPA-users] 2.11 partially correct and Lenient grading

Hi,

If you wish to allow students to continue to make submissions (up to the
maximum number of tries allowed) for an optionresponse or matchresponse item,
for which the "lenient" parameter has been set, then you would also want to set
the "retrypartial" to "yes". As you noted the default is "no".

Note: students may reduce their scores for the item as well as increase them,
by making additional submission(s) after submitting a partially correct
response, because LON-CAPA will report points awarded for a problem part based
on the value of "awarded" computed for the most recent submission (at the time
it was graded), unless overridden by a score entered via the grading interface
by course personnel.

For the case where both lenient and retrypartial parameters are set to yes, no
additional submissions are allowed for the student when all response items have
been answered correctly (i.e., full credit has been awarded).

What matters is the value of the lenient parameter (as it applies to the
particular student and the particular resource) when a submission is graded.

Any partially correct submissions to optionresponse or matchresponse submitted
during a time when lenient is set to "default" (or not set) will receive an
awarddetail of INCORRECT, and an awarded value of value 0 (unless bubblesheet
grading).

By contrast, partially correct submissions will receive an awarddetail of
ASSIGNED_SCORE and an awarded value of #right/#possible, when lenient is set to
"yes".

There is no effect on previously graded submissions when changing/setting the
lenient parameter after a homework is set has closed).
