Lee,

You could use a blocking event, configured via:

Settings > Content Settings > "Blocking Communication/Resource Access"

to restrict access to other parts of the course, aside from the exam questions

If you set the "Time-Limit (interval)" parameter it is possible to block
student access to other areas of the course, after a student has pushed "Show
Resource" for a particular resource (or folder) in the exam.

If you check the "Triggered by Activating Timer" radio button when defining a
blocking event, you'll be able to choose the resource or folder, which will be
the trigger. If you check the "Content" checkbox
in the "Blocked?" column when adding the event, a window will pop-up, in which
you indicate which folders or resources will be blocked.

Do *not* block access to a "Table of Contents" or Syllabus item, if you have
either in your course, or (obviously) to the question(s) in the timed exam
itself. Normal access to blocked areas of the course will be restored when the
time interval has elapsed.

Note: LON-CAPA 2.12 will support both "allow from IP" and "deny from IP" for
both IP restrictions for slots and also the client IP/Name Access Control
parameter (acc) which can be set for resources and/or folders.

Subject: [LON-CAPA-users] Restricting Resources By IP Address

Hello Everyone,

We’ve been working with Lon-Capa’s ability to grant access to a resource by IP
address in order to allow an exam to only be accessed when a student is in an
exam room. This can be done with slots and resources parameters. However, we
would also like to deny access to resources (or courses) by IP address. That
way when a student is in the exam room they have access to the exam but do not
have access to the rest of the course.

Does anyone know if there is a way to blacklist IP addresses for Lon-Capa
resources or slots?

Lee
