Hmm, I hope not. Last I heard, they'd pledged to carry on supporting
PL/SQL indefinitely. Many of the big improvements in v8 over v7 are
to do with PL/SQL (improving performance, particularly) so it would
be very odd to drop it now. Not to mention backwards compatibility...
Hopefully it's just in the name of buzzword-compliance.
In fact my Task For The Day is to rewrite a component which currently
runs as Java inside the database so that it runs outside, and to rewrite
the bits which really *have* to be in the DB in PL/SQL.
This is because it's crashing really messily now (SIG 11) presumably
due to a bug in Oracle. At least it'll be _possible_ to debug it outside
the database...
