No, Google's server is happy to talk with loudmouth, it's what's used in Telepathy's Jabber backend for doing Google Talk on the Nokia 770. Ganapati, maybe what you need to do is handle SSL errors with a function to accept them and continue connecting? Unless you've got a magical OpenSSL or GNUTLS, certificate verification will always fail and you'll never be able to set up the SSL part of the connection.
