you know it steve, or that I have been busy with the day job. The original set of features I had in mind involved marshaling objects into the record for persistence and also giving the record the ability to render and group on it's own. After starting this I found an issue with marshaling the file_column records (was looking to possibly upgrade to a more recent file attachment plugin) which is where i got sidetracked with life. When Marshall sent in the email, I decided to go a more simple route which if you watch my fork, you would see it being done on my spare time. It is a cleaner implementation of the current feed system which will use a single template for rendering, and grouping.
