Thanks for the reply Steven!
I thought I removed all the other Rails gems, but it did not clean up all the 
active… stuff.  I have since cleaned our those gems and still get that weird 
syntax error.

I am considering starting a new gemset and giving it another try.  I noticed 
that when I started with the rake lovdbyless:getting_started
it would complain about missing gems, so I installed the ones it complained 
about.  That is how I ended up with such an extensive list below.  Your README 
does not mention all these other gems, so it left me wondering if something 
went wrong.  You only mention a handful of gems in the README.

If I were to scrap this gem set what RoR combination should get lovdbyless to 
run?  Should I use the 2.3.5 branch?
