"Team(s)";
I wanted to give you all the heads-up that I am "resigning" from the
Platform Committee effective immediately, and am announcing to you that I
WILL NOT be seeking to be a member of the Board of Directors as the
Publications Director at the business meeting of the upcoming convention.
This is a decision I came to this morning when yet again I found myself in a
familiar place of trying to get some work done on the issues & other LPCO
business I had wanted to engage.
The thust, about 95% of this decision comes out of circumstances beyond my
control and tremendous potential opportunities and possible developments in
my career which have surfaced in such a way that I can not only NOT ignore
them, but I have to be proactive in making them work to my immediate
advantage and long term "career" path.
The net result in this is that something has to suffer for lack of time -
and my choice is to cease operations in the Platform Committee, as well as
most likely in the LPCO, at least a most definately (this is a 100% decision
as of this morning) a non-renewal of position with the Board of Directors as
Publications Director.
I have discovered that every time I attempt to seriously engage anything
that has to do with the LPCO and requires an investment in time, issues with
my career (and my family) have to take priority - therefore I find the need
to amputate that which is causing subtle turmoil in my time and attention -
the Platform Committee along with the internal strife of the LPCO's
membership.
I have also found that since becoming a board member I find myself in a
myopic position very similar to G.W.Schrub - dealing with mismanagement and
subtle anti-Vance sentiments from the former regime that have, in my
opinion, (in)directly interferred with my ability to do my job as I
envisioned it being done. I'm not blaming the former regime for 100% of the
problems I have encountered, since obviously some things, like a more modern
web site was successfully created and established in fairly short order even
as I ran an active campaign. I after all have equally allowed "life" to get
in the way of other developments and committments like the Liberty and the
new conceived quarterly recruiting newspaper - just as often as I've found
their lack of documentation or supposed "common knowledge" breeches to cause
me problems... but what I am saying is there has been an invisible hand(s)
of discent that I am bothered by to this day when it comes to getting a job
done in the LPCO as Publications Director following "Ari's Golden Age".
I HOPE that this Committee and the Board of Directors, whoever is on it, can
continue to run with what look to be excellent ideas in the making. I HOPE
this party can survive the coming storm that I see looming on the horizon -
a storm NOT created by the HB03-1142 legislation - but by several fractures
which I believe continues to grow under the surface of the face of the
LPCO... multiple splits in multiple levels and beliefs created when this
party had a legitimate shot at becoming something bigger and better but
couldn't handle the pressure of contested races and how to make those work
to its advantage... fractures which I believe will cause tremendous damage
to this party, perhaps not at the 2003 convention, but I believe most
definately during the 2004 election cycle if something is not done, and done
sooner rather than later to fill the growing gap with something that
restores a common ground.
I regret that I have to be selfish in these trying times and step away from
something that I am passionate about - real political change and bringing
political awakening to my and the next generation to the advantages of the
libertarian philosophy, if not the LPCO/LP itself - but I too see that
perhaps stepping back is the right thing to do at this moment in time and
see where I fit into the bigger picture. I might not even be in the final
cropping, I might be somewhere in the center mass. I guess after the first
weekend of April, I'll just have to play my cards - when time permits - and
see what happens.
And just for reference --- this DOES NOT mean I am scrapping the Liberty for
February or ceasing searching for the lost January publication - this just
is an announcement. I have duties to attend to until the convention - and I
will see those out.
Vance
