Gaar, I did wonder if we should use Robert's rules, but I had my doubts, depending on members.
Perhaps if at the convention, this committee is re-instated, this will be - well, maybe covered by you!    Gregg

Subject: Re: [LPCO] Work by committee? Order needed

As a board member over the last year, I have been involved in a number of email deliberations culminating in votes.  What has always struck me is that there is an utter lack of order in email deliberations.  Roberts rules, for instance, don't work in the email arena.  The flexibilities created by email are well offset by constraints.

There are several very good sets of order rules for email deliberations that I have seen on the web, but the science is not yet an art

I think it would behoove any group that contemplates email proceedings to start with clear set of rules for proceedures and timing for proposals, discussion and votes.  It certainly won't insure success, but it may give success at least the ghost of a chance.

It seems that the Platform Committee needs to be reconstituted from scratch at the convention, apparently more correct according to the by-laws, anyway.  Dana & I have been trying all day to get our first committee vote accomplished, & it's like pulling teeth.  Still no decision.  We need people willing to do something.  This undecisiveness is one of the reasons that I came out with a Platform Proposal on my own - to at least get something started.  Endless talk with no decision-making wastes everyone's time.    Gregg
