2; Deleting the Level 1 release #1 exams.

As of November 1st, LPI will delete the release #1 exams from both
Vue and Prometric, (except in Japan.)

LPI is now offering release 2 of their Level 1 exams 101 and 102.

These exams are in beta but candidates will receive their score
immediately and the exams will be used for certification purposes
 as usual.

The only difference candidates will see here is there is 1 extra hour
time allocated for these exams as there are a few more questions
 on the beta.
The new items in this beta do not affect their score and
preparations they have made based on the old exams and objectives are
 still valid.

LPI hopes to complete the beta study within the next few weeks and
the new live exam will be published in January.

As you know, there are 2 Level 1 exams required for the Level 1
certification and if candidates have already passed one of the first
release exams they may take the second exam in release 2 and will
 still qualify for the certification.

The first release LPI 117-101 and 117-102 Japanese language exams will
continue to be offered until the new release exams are released in
final format in January, 2003, at which time the exams will be
 translated into Japanese.

3; LATM Program

Early this year LPI was asked by the members of the advisory council
to help promote a training material approval process. This process is
now in the hands of a 3rd party called Procert.

Procert is a company dedicated to ensuring the best possible
 courseware is available for study.
They take LPI courseware from training and courseware companies and
put them through a rigorous course of investigation, to ensure the LPI
objectives are fully covered and truly represent the certification.

Please have a look at the details of this program, and you will see
that Caldera (now known as SCO) already has the distinction of being
put through this process and now being able to offer
 'LPI approved training material'.
We are excited that other companies are pursuing LATM certification. We
especially want to thank SCO for leading this effort and using their
considerable resources to write quality courseware in support of LPI
certification."

Anyone who is interested in attaining this distinction,
should read through the details, and contact Procert for costs and
 other information.

 4. Sponsors who continue to support LPI

LPI began with assistance from our sponsors, who continue to assist us
with ideas, advice and ensure we keep a valid certification program.
We are operated with the assistance of the advisory council members
many of whom are representatives of original sponsors.

 http://www.lpi.org/advisory.html

There are a number of sponsors who were with us as we began the process
of designing and building a certification, and they are shown as
 'Charter Sponsors' on our sponsors web page;

 http://www.lpi.org/a-sponsors.html

Some of our sponsors are entitled to special sponsor logos and
should you see any of these special logos on our sponsor websites,
you will know these are some of the sponsors responsible for ensuring
 LPI runs smoothly.

New sponsors are always welcome, LPI is a community involved
organization and we need participation from all Linux supporters to
continue to create a valid and worthwhile certification.

5. IBM in Miami Florida - 4Linux in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

IBM supports LPI in it's endeavors to offer inexpensive exams at
various IBM conferences and other events.

For the past year, IBM has encouraged LPI to participate in conferences
in China, Austria, Toronto, Miami Florida, Germany. It is so helpful
to have IBM support what we are doing, and is always right there to
help with the logistics, personnel, or other things that have to be
done to ensure we continue to offer these inexpensive exam events.
To remain a neutral body, it is necessary to have LPI staff run the
events, but to complete the events requires more staff than we have
available ! So thank-you IBM for your continuing support.

4linux in Sao Paulo asked LPI to come to Brazil and offer LPI exams
 as inexpensively as possible.
With the assistance of 4linux.com.br we were able to offer these
 exams in Brazil.

Thank you Marcelo Marques ( http://www.4Linux.com.br )for your support
of LPI and for helping make this event happen.

If your company would like LPI to participate in other events,
please let us know. [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 6. Opening an LPI members account.

Anyone who plans to take an LPI exam should open a members account
 and register themselves for an LPI number;

 http://www.lpi.org/registration.html

Take this LPI number to the testing site and have the testing site
 register you with this number.
It will tie their database to the LPI database, and your certification
details are then easier to find.

If you have already taken an exam you will already have an LPI number
but you may want to check your scores, change your address or phone
number. Please go to this site, and enter the details from your
 score report from the testing site;

 https://www.lpi.org/createAccount.html

If you are having difficulty finding the information to open a
 members account, please don't hesitate to contact us ;
