LPI Announces "School-to-Work" Program in Spain

(Sacramento, CA, USA and Madrid, Spain: June 21, 2012) The Linux
Professional Institute (LPI), the world's premier Linux certification
organization (http://www.lpi.org), announced an innovative
"School-to-Work" Linux training and certification program in Spain
sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports
(http://www.educacion.gob.es/portada.html) and the European Social Fund
(http://ec.europa.eu/esf/). This program (http://mil.lpi.org.es/), led
by Spanish secondary schools and LPI-Spain, will initially prepare 300
students in careers as Linux professionals and IT trainers.

"We at LPI know that Linux and Open Source Software is a growing and key
component of the IT infrastructure of nations and enterprises around the
world. As such, we welcome opportunities to work with educational and
government authorities to develop their IT workforce. This program in
Spain is an example of how multiple partners can cooperate to ensure
young people have the necessary technological skills to advance their
professional careers," said Jim Lacey, president and CEO of LPI.

The "School-to-Work" program included the development of an e-learning
platform on Linux and other IT skills and will prepare students for both
LPIC-1 and LPIC-2 certification. The program has plans to expand
throughout Spain and is presently underway in 14 secondary school
institutes. A list of participating educators and their respective
schools is listed here: http://mil.lpi.org.es/?page_id=82

"As an IT teacher in Spain I recognize the importance of Linux education
for the future career prospects of my students. LPI certification is an
important element in demonstrating to employers expertise in Linux and
Open Source skills. My fellow colleagues will continue to work with LPI
in improving and creating high quality learning content on FOSS so as to
bring that resource to the wider Spanish-spoken world," said Alejandro
de la Torre, an IT instructor at IES Miguel Romero and project
coordinator. Mr. de la Torre noted that 56 teachers and 371 students had
participated in the project to date.

The Linux Professional Institute is globally supported by the IT
industry, enterprise customers, community professionals, government
entities and the educational community. LPI's certification program is
supported by an affiliate network spanning five continents and is
distributed worldwide in multiple languages at more than 7,000 testing
locations. Since 1999, LPI has delivered over 300,000 exams and 100,000
LPIC certifications around the world.
