You really have 2 options:

1. Gain experience with the objectives of each, or
2. Wait for additional LPIC-3 exam options

Even in the case of #2, I don't think lack of knowledge of LDAP -- at
least general network authentication, directory, naming and other
implementations -- is optional at level 3. In other words, the content
on Exam 301 is unavoidable, even though Exam 302 (Samba, NFS, etc...)
probably is.

BTW, I don't think Exam 301 is OpenLDAP-specific. E.g., as I understand
it, the concepts and configurations covered may also apply to Fedora
(aka Red Hat, fka Netscape) Directory Server.

Experience in an enterprise environment is ideal.

But barring that, given the nature and availability of Linux solutions,
setting up an environment at home is also an option. Remember, VMWare
Server is _free_ so you _could_ setup a set of virtual machines on a
_single_ computer.

I'd recommend setting up the following services ...

- Kerberos 5, namely the Distribution Center (KDC)
- OpenLDAP Server -- SuSE Linux probably has the best implementation,
  *OR*
- Fedora Directory Server -- Fedora Core
- Samba and NFS -- on all servers

I haven't seen the exams, and I wasn't involved with their development,
but I'll assume they are going to be more OpenLDAP-centric, although
OpenLDAP and Fedora (Netscape) Directory Servers are based on the same
Washington University codebase. The latter has standard replication and
GUI front-end implementation, showing some of its commercial history,
although OpenLDAP has many such options as well, and can use some of the
Fedora front-ends ones too. I'm biased with the latter, because I've
been deploying it for a long-time (and was jumping for joy when Red Hat
bought it from AOL-Netscape in 2004 and finally secured all rights to
GPL/MPL it by spring 2005).

And then the following clients ...

- Windows XP Pro with Domain Login to Samba
- Linux (your choice of distro) with Kerberos auth, LDAP client, etc...

And if you can ...

- Windows 2000 Server with ADS, and setup Samba to authenticate against
its Kerberos and store in its schema in its LDAP

Experience is the key here. We're at level 3, so "book knowledge"
really isn't going to get you anywhere. I would recommend 3 months of
intense usage before attempting the exam, _regardless_ of study
materials.
