»Shebang«, in this sense anyway, actually comes from »sharp-bang«, as in »#!« 
(but you probably already knew this). Now once we're into ASCII special 
characters, it is mandatory to point to Fred Bremmer's and Steve Kroese's 
classic poem, which goes

    ^ @ ` $ $ -
    ! * ' $ _
    % * < > # 4
    & ) . . /
    | { ~ ~ SYSTEM HALTED

(this must be read out loud to be appreciated).

Incidentally, Don Libes and Sandy Ressler, in »Life with Unix«, call »#!« 
the »shell selector«, but I think most people would just look at you blankly.
