Linux Essentials "beta" exams: Call for Volunteers

(Kassel, Germany: April 19, 2012) The Linux Professional Institute -
Central Europe (LPI-CE: http://www.lpice.eu), issued a call for
volunteers to participate in the first "beta" exams for the Linux
Professionals Institute's (LPI: http://www.lpi.org) "Linux Essentials"
program during LinuxTag, May 23-26 in Berlin, Germany
(http://www.linuxtag.org/2012/en.html)

?Linux Essentials? is an innovative new program measuring foundational
knowledge in Linux and Open Source Software and will be publicly
released in June 2012. "Beta" exams are offered free to volunteers who
wish to assist LPI in its exam development process for the "Linux
Essentials" program.

During LinuxTag there will be eight different sessions for volunteers to
take "beta" exams which are offered free of charge. This volunteer
effort will enable LPI to measure the "Linux Essentials" exam for
quality, accuracy and relevancy. All interested individuals who do not
hold an existing Linux certification are invited to participate--however
seating is limited to ten per session.

Successful candidates who pass the exam will be awarded a "Linux
Essentials Certificate of Achievement". Alternatively candidates may
choose to have their exam results deleted from their registration
record. Final exam scores for the volunteer "beta" exams will be
available in late June 2012. Volunteer participants in the "beta" exams
during LinuxTag will also be eligible for special prizes (TBA).

Each "beta" session is for two hours and consists of eighty questions.
To participate exam volunteers must obtain an LPI ID at
https://cs.lpi.org/caf/Xamman/register and register in advance for the
Linux Essentials "beta" exam at http://lpievent.lpice.eu "

"Beta" exams will be available at the LPI exam room "Regensburg" at
hall 4.1 during LinuxTag at the following times: Thursday, May
24th, Friday, May 25th at 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and on
Saturday, May 26th at 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m.

Exam preparation sessions for the Linux Essentials "beta"
exam will be offered on the first day of LinuxTag, Wednesday, May 23,
2012 at the Berlin Fair Grounds (LPI exam room "Regensburg", Hall 4.1).
Participation is voluntary but seating is limited. Please register in
advance by sending an email with the title "Exam preparation session for
the Linux Essentials Beta" to [email protected] and include your name and
LPI ID.

LPI invites all interested trainers to submit a proposal for this Linux
Essentials exam preparation session. Proposals should include a
detailed description for a three hour exam preparation session and may
be submitted to [email protected] until May 3, 2012.

Targeted at new technology users, the ?Linux Essentials? program is set
to be adopted by schools, educational authorities, training centers and
others commencing June 2012. For more information on this program
please see:
http://www.lpi.org/linux-certifications/introductory-programs/linux-essentials

The Linux Professional Institute will be offering further "beta" exams
for "Linux Essentials" at other upcoming special events (TBA). If your
organization, training center or school is interested in hosting such a
"beta" exam event please contact [email protected] prior to May 12, 2012.

During LinuxTag Berlin LPI-Central Europe will also host an information
booth: Stand # 133, Hall 7.2a. In addition,
Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) exams will be made
available during the same time slots as the "beta" exams. LPIC-1 and
LPIC-2 (101, 102, 201, 202) exams will be available in English and
German, while LPIC-3 exams (301, 302, 303 and 304) will be available in
English only. All exams are offered at the promotional price of 80 EUR
per exam, except for LPI-301 which will be 100 EUR. The exam fee must be
paid in cash directly before the exam labs. At the exam events
candidates must produce photo ID and their LPI ID number. As there is
only a limited number of seats available at the exam labs, please
register in advance at: http://lpievent.lpice.eu
