In fairness, you will need to locate a distribution that still uses
System-V init. As mainstream Linux distributions go, these are
becoming somewhat thin on the ground these days. Distributions like
recent Fedora, openSUSE or Ubuntu don't qualify.

My personal recommendation would be to look at Debian 7.x and CentOS
6.x (for the RPM side of things). VirtualBox is your friend.
