FYI, I sent this to lpi-pr, but no one seemed to be interested. Is there anyone on this list who might be interested in helping out in this way? Let me know, Dan -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Volunteer to coordinate LPI banner ad contest? Date: Wed, 03 May 2000 18:12:09 -0400 From: Dan York <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Organization: Linuxcare To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Folks, We've had a number of web sites indicate that they would be glad to cycle some banner ads into their displays to support us. Sites such as Linux.com (and its affiliated sites) and the Linux Weekly News... I'm sure there are others who might do so as well. The problem of course is that none of the volunteers currently working on things have the time to create the ads ourselves - or to coordinate a contest soliciting ideas. So I'd like to throw it out to this list... is there someone out there who would have the time over the next month or two to coordinate a banner ad contest for LPI? It's probably going to be a substantial bit of work. We need to identify the sites that could take ads (I've got info on several) and then create some contest rules, etc. And then, of course, there is publicizing it and figuring out how the contest will be judged. Last time we did a contest (for the LPI logo), it was a lot of fun and we had some pretty amazing entries by people. We did an informal "poll" to figure out the most popular... we could probably do something like that again. Our sponsors have been very supportive and I'm sure we can have no end of prizes we could give out (books, box-set distributions, other freebies). And in truth, we could have a number of winners - with sites that want to run our ads having a choice... There might even be several categories - long horizontal, vertical ad (like those run at Linux.com), small button, animated, non-animated... The issue, of course, is that someone has to coordinate the whole dang thing... enlist other volunteers... interact with other people working on other facets of LPI... I'm sure there will be many people who can *help*, but someone has to be the point person (and it can't be me!). Any volunteers? This could be fun... (but it's going to be a good bit of work!)
