Mr. Shiryan: Although I do not speak for LPI (I am not an employee, but just one of its many volunteers since 2004, but one of hardly any note), I'll start with videos that are both more entertaining and in-depth ... (see 'REFERENCES' below for the tagged [0] [0a] ... [3c] links). RE: LPIC-1 (101 and 102) Just last month, Kenny Armstrong did an excellent, 1.5 hour video on the LPI YouTube channel [0] about the new version 5.0 of the LPI Certified Level 1 (LPIC-1) program, including Exams 101 and 102, and it should answer almost all your questions. [0a] RE: LPI DevOps Tools Engineer (701) And last fall, Aleksey Tsalolikhin did a detailed, almost 1.5 hour video on LPI YouTube channel [0] about the initial version 1.0 of the LPI DevOps Tools Engineer program, mainly Exam 701, and it too should answer almost all your questions. [0b] More detailed answers ... First off, I'd like to welcome -- as a peer -- to the LPI Exam Development list which is used mainly for LPI exam objectives and other aspects of program development by the greater community, of which you are free to join and participate. That said, just to give you additional places to look for answers ... 1) Tutorials and Study Materials LPI lists several 'free' and 'partner' programs on its main web pages, although some may be aged. [1a] [1b] And more recently LPI, its volunteers and sponsoring partners, under the direction of Dr. Wirtz, has been consolidating both LPI partner and free LPI learning materials on the new, LPI Learning site. [1c] The latter is still in development and you may also find additional resources in Google searches. E.g., LPI.org doesn't list all the materials available for LPIC-1 (Exam 101 or 102) or Dev Ops, but you may find yet others not listed on the LPI sites -- especially for DevOps. 2) Computer Based Testing (CBT) and Live Proctoring LPI offers Computer Based Testing (CBT) via Pearson-Vue and often, at trade shows and other events, offers Live Proctored exams. Yes, these are mainly 'multiple choice' as well as 'fill in the blank' exams, based on psychometrics, as performance-based examination is rather costly.** There are a few other options that others on this list may be better at explaining all your options at this time. I.e., Given the current COVID-19 situation, additional options may be available. 3) Retake Policy I would familiarize yourself with the general LPI Policies on the main web site. [3a] For those using Pearson-Vue testing avenues, they may have additional policies on its site as well, but most of them should align with the LPI policies. [3b] And the LPI Most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) may fill-in a few other areas. [3c] Feel free to suggest any improvements that could be made to the web site and access to information. It can be a bit 'piecemeal' as the LPI sites are in current states of re-development, especially around new programs, the new learning materials and other aspects. Although I don't speak for Red Hat any more than LPI, after spending almost a decade with Red Hat, including delivering and even development Red Hat Training and Partner materials, don't get 'hung up' on Performance-based v. Computer Based Testing (CBT). Red Hat based its program on the Cisco CCIE program, which costs about $2,000/day -- again, very costly -- in just examination overhead costs. Then there are the 'limited' test sites and dates to use their protectored classrooms and/or kiosks. But unlike Cisco, Red Hat attempts to 'bundle' training as well as uses training to 'subsidize' examination costs. Red Hat is a corporation with over $1B/year in revenue. That's how they can 'subsidize' the exams about 50-66%, bringing them down to about $400 per half day. LPI has a completely non-profit model that -- unlike a lot of other 'vendor agnostic' programs -- makes no money on training. So LPI's delivery approach is different, but not any less ... 'important.' I.e., I still *prefer* LPIC-1 in addition to even just Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) in Red Hat shops. Why? I've been a Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA) for the past decade, which means I had over 30 hours of hands-on, lab-based testing over six (6) days, and I took another dozen (12) hours of Architect-level exams to maintain it for several more years, each 3-6 hour exam at the 'subsized' cost of $400-800 each, not including travel and other things. But even the full RHCA, well beyond just the RHCSA/RHCE, is still a 'task-based' program that has specific objectives and ... well ... cannot be 'broad.' E.g., real-world, I've had several cases where two (2) different LPI objectives were not remotely covered in any Red Hat exam, but I run into a lot, and people -- yes, even certified Red Hat engineers -- were lost. I really love the broadness of the LPI program, which is possibly using its extensive objectives and psychometric approach. That's not to minimize Red Hat's approach, far from it! Red Hat's exams are trusted because they are almost like a 'hands on interview,' and that's why it's respected by potential employers. And yet, they are still very 'limited' in scope because of the tested format, something that LPIC-1 fills in very, very well. LPI and Red Hat complement each other very well, so understand performance-based has its strengths, and computer-based has its too.
