Compiling the kernel has always been the bread and butter of a Unix
system administrator or even just an advanced user. Just because
binary packages exist doesn't mean that one should not be able to
compile a custom kernel. It's not even really that difficult and you
don't even have to install it. I compile most of my applications on
Debian using pkgsrc.

The entry in the Objective page is obsolete, so are many entries in
other LPI certifications. I reported a few gross mistakes in the BSD
Specialist objectives but it appears it fell on deaf ears.
