Dear all,

It's objective review season again, with three exams that we will update in
the next months. This time we will focus on LPIC-2 (exam 201 and 202) and
DevOps Tools Engineer (exam 701).

As usual, we would like to update the content of the exams to reflect
(only) currently used technologies and to continue to be a good reflection
of tools actually used in the field. A lot has changed since we've
created the current exam versions, so we will likely see huge updates. In
short, DevOps will likely go more into a container/cloud native direction
while LPIC-2 will probably include more systemd and some Ansible (no, not
the RHCE way).

I will start individual threads for each exam in a minute, please keep your
comments in the respective thread. For each exam there is a draft proposal
which includes changes that we have identified (kudos to Michael who helped
in the preparation of the drafts and Harald for some initial fixes!). Now
it's up to you to review the proposed objectives and provide feedback,
propose changes and comment. We will update the wiki pages as we go, please
make sure to follow along the history of the pages. In the discussion,
please keep in mind that our exams address a broad audience, there might be
certain niches in which tools or methodologies are special, however, in a
generic set of exams we have to draw the line between what is common
knowledge and what is domain specific. Not all aspects may make it into the
exam, but it is still worth considering every thought to ensure that the
new exams will not just be technically awesome, but also a great tool to
prove proficiency in Linux and Open Source.

Since we are just getting started with the exam development, we will likely
see the new exams becoming available in summer 2024. Along with the six
month grace period, the old versions of the exams will still be available
for about a year. The exact dates have still to be defined, take this as an
estimate, not as a guarantee.

If you have any concerns that you would like to share privately, please
reach out to me directly.

Fabian
