on my system, nc is Nedit Client. Not sure what that has to do with
network config and troubleshooting.
Also, arpwatch is specific to which distros? Debian, RH, Mandrake
perhaps? Not found on my Caldera Systems. I have arping, but not
arpwatch.
And I know Debian has not such /etc/sysconfig/ subdir.
Sorry for the delay -- been extremely busy lately.
Will try to get to the rest after I finish a couple of iptables scripts
