The Filesystem Hierarchy Standard is authorative.  If it is silent on the
subject, refer to the files without a specific path, or require knowledge
of their location in common distributions, or (if you think it is
appropriate) mention some typical locations; as you notice, the latter
will grow stale at every new distro release (about twice a year).
