The time has come for LPI to refresh the JTA for the level 1 and 2
Objectives to the LPIC programme.

Now is the time to consider the positioning of some of the topics covered by
these two exams. Here is a short example of the sort of topics that I think
need to be in the next LPIC-1/2 objectives:

Additions to LPIC-1/2: accessibility issues (sight & hearing impaired, etc)
                       internationalization issues
                       database basics (MySQL and PostgreSQL)
better coverage of newer technologies (such as LVM)
other packaging and meta-package systems (such as YUM)
                       LTSP coverage
                       POP/IMAP

And a reassessment (based on JTA results) of "older"/"out of favour"
technologies such as UseNet, PPP, 2.2/2.4 Kernel, LPD, etc...

As well, some of the "administrator" tasks should be pushed up from LPIC-1
into LPIC-2. The benefit of making this adjustment is that LPIC-1 can be
better positioned as an entry-level Linux Professional certification for
a number of IT occupations while making room for some new topics required
in a more complex Linux environment (as opposed to back in 1999/2000).
More on this last part in a subsequent e-mail.

On this thread, I'm interested in hearing opinions on what should be added
to the LPIC-1/2 topics as well as what should be dropped.

I'd also like to hear opinions on what level these topics should be tested.

Regards,
