I wouldn't really say that it's a change in focus as much as a refinement. For example, the Japanese LPI affiliate has always marketed this as a "linux professional" certification and not just an admin one. I think it's unfair to load up a "linux professional" that is really going off to be a developer with a lot of unnecessary admin study. IMO, the certs are now "right-sized" with: LPIC-1: junior Linux professional (reality meets marketing to some extent) Ideal for someone that wants to become an admin, developer, etc LPIC-2: Linux administrator For the dedicated admin LPIC-3: Linux admin with demonstrated depth in specialties For the glutton for punishment (aka enterprise level job seekers) The big question, I guess, is "Is LPIC-1 still an admin certification?" My answer to that is, "Yes." It is also a certification for developers, DBAs, help desk, ... It demonstrates a general expertise in the linux environment, including core "user" services like NTP, cups, syslog and a couple of others. Basically, someone that is trainable for whatever Linux-centric, technical career path they choose, including admin. Short Answer: effectively, the alignment is unchanged :) Regards, -- g. matthew rice <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> starnix care, toronto, ontario, ca phone: 647.722.5301 x242 gpg id: EF9AAD20 http://www.starnix.com professional linux services & products _______________________________________________ lpi-examdev mailing list lpi-examdev@lpi.org http://list.lpi.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/lpi-examdev
