I'm running Debian potato/woody (some of both on one system), and I've never
seen anything like this.
Seeing as I am still setting things up, I could adjust things to try and
duplicate this if that helps.

OK,
The problem is that the Debian lprng package runs checkpc -r -A 1D every
      day.
Fine for the first day, second day you get:
      Warning - ** cannot open '/var/spool/lpd/lp/control.djet500' - 'No such
      file or directory'
Warning - ** cannot open '/var/spool/lpd/lp/status' - 'No such file or
      directory'
Warning - cannot open '/var/spool/lpd/lp/status' - 'No such file or
      directory'
      Warning - ** cannot open '/var/spool/lpd/lp2/control.epson600' - 'No such
      file or directory'
Warning - ** cannot open '/var/spool/lpd/lp2/status' - 'No such file or
      directory'
Warning - cannot open '/var/spool/lpd/lp2/status' - 'No such file or
      directory'

So.. Should I care these files have been blown away? Should I be
running a different set of flags each day for general housekeeping?
And a big thankyou to whoever amc is for tracking down that is going on
here.

stop/starting lpd returns these files. This is for lprng 3.6.1
