I have Mandrake 7.0 distribution installed. I have a new 3-port print
server that supports TCP/IP, IPX and NetBEUI. I have assigned an ip address
to the print server and configured my hosts file. I have a Genicom 4800
line printer emulating an Epson FX-286e attached to the lp1 port. I can
manually print to the printer by using "lpr -Plp1@finch filename". I have
configured /etc/profile to include "PRINTER=lp1@finch". However I cannot
get my printcap file configured correctly to allow remote printing. Here is
my printcap entry.
##PRINTTOOL3##REMOTE
lp:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
:mx#0:\
:sh:\
:rm=finch:\
:rp=lp1:
With this configuration, here is the error message I get.
Status Information:
sending job 'pwardell@cellpage2+215' to lp@localhost
connecting to 'localhost', attempt 1
connected to 'localhost'
requesting printer lp@localhost
job 'pwardell@cellpage2+215' transfer to lp@localhost failed
error 'NONZERO RFC1179 ERROR CODE FROM SERVER' with ack 'ACK_FAIL'
sending str '^Blp' to lp@localhost
error msg: 'lp: no spool queue'
Maybe someone can enlighten me on what I am doing wrong. The end result needs
to be that I can include the printcap remote printer entry into my smb.conf
file.
