Thanks for the replies. Yes, it does work as expected. I just happened
to try
it on two "special" HP LJ4ms and couldn't get it to work. Next time I'll
do
a better job of testing before I yell for help...
The first printer is JetDirect attached, but had a "LOW TONER"
condition.
According to the PJL Tech Ref Manual using RDYMSG will replace the
lowest
priority 00 READY message and will NOT appear until a high priority
condition (such as low toner) is cleared.
The 2nd printer is attached to a Microplex(network printer box). I can
send
jobs fine using ifhp over port 4400, but my RDYMSGs don't get displayed.
I think this has to do with handshake between the Microplex and the
printer
over the parallel port. This is something that I never tried before, not
something that worked & is now broke. I can live that.
