Steve,
On our HP 5si's the delay was usually caused by the waits required for the
pagecount information. Since we don't use accounting, turning that off
reduced the waits considerably. In my IFHP.conf, I set sync@ and
pagecount@. If you're braver than I am, you might even try status@.
