try the following magic incantation:
cp LPRng-... /usr/ports/distfiles
tar zxvf LPRng-....tgz
cd LPRng-...
cd DISTRIBUTIONS/FreeBSD*
## you can copy this to another spot if you want,
## this is a copy of the 'package' directory ususally found in
## /usr/ports/sysutils/LPRng
make
Note that you will discover that this does a package based make using the
tar file in /usr/ports/distfiles.
