Subject: Problem with LPrng on HPUX 11

Hi:

Is there anybody running LPrng on HPUX 11 ? --- I got very strange
problem with my system.

Basically I have tested both "lpd" and "ifhp" separately. They all
work well, but just do not work togather. Here are what I did:

   1. To test ifhp

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

       % cp /dev/null /tmp/t
       % /usr/local/lib/filters/ifhp -Tdev=/tmp/t,trace,debug=1
<./testdata 2>/tmp/trace

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The resulting /tmp/t and /tmp/trace file looks fine.

   2. To print /tmp/t to "myprinter"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

       % lpr -Praw@myprinter /tmp/t

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

       It prints the /tmp/t correctly.

   3. But when I print

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

       % lpr -Pmyprinter ./testdata

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The control file and data files are generated in
/var/spool/lpd/myprinter, but no printout. The job "stalled" in the
queue and with these status info:
 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

% lpq -l -Pmyprinter
 ......
 Status: OF filter msg - 'ifhp 17:09:35.272 [5287] Process_OF_mode:
starting select, 1 fds' at 17:09:35.272
Status: OF filter msg - 'ifhp 17:09:35.281 [5287] read wait fd 0' at
17:09:35.281
 Filter_status: (of) ifhp 17:09:35.272 [5287] Process_OF_mode: starting
select, 1 fds
 Filter_status: (of) ifhp 17:09:35.281 [5287] read wait fd 0
 Rank Owner/ID Class Job
Files Size Time
 stalled(381sec) jinz@norton+282 A 282 ./test 969
17:08:33
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In addition, later I switched on the "dev=/tmp/d" option in
ifhp.conf file, and
1. Print ./testdata file
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

% lpr -Pmyprinter ./testdata
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Print /tmp/d directly to myprinter
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

% lpr -Praw@myprinter /tmp/d
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got both the banner page and ./testdata file printout from myprinter
correctly.

By the way, the exactly same LPrng configureation works well on HPUX
10.20, and the printcap is as below:
......
myprinter
    :bq=ps@myprinter:tc=.test:

.......
.test:sd=/var/spool/lpd/%P:
        :sf:sb:mx#0:tv=psc:
        :generate_banner:
        :fx=fvlp:
        :bl=User\: $-'n Job\: $-'J Date\: $-'t:
        :if=/usr/local/lib/filters/ifhp -Tstatus=off:
        :of=/usr/local/lib/filters/ifhp -Fo:
       :vf=/usr/local/lib/filters/ifhp -c -Tstatus=off:
        :bp=/usr/local/lib/filters/psbanner:

Anybody had similar experiecne ? Thanks in advance for any
suggestion and advice.

    Regards

    Jin
