I've recently converted our Solaris (2.5.1 through 2.8) systems to
lprng. Things work, but AppSocket printing is VERY slow. Actually, it seems
that once ifhp is done, it's the transfer from the Sun print server to any
of the HP printers that is very slow. A simple one-page text file will take
2 minutes print -- with the regular Solaris lp stuff and HP JetAdmin
software, the same page would print in a matter of seconds.
A 1177064 byte job when using raw LPD takes under a minute to print. When
using AppSocket, it took roughly 15 minutes from start to finish (with sync@,
pagecount@, waitend@, status@):

I'm using a pretty basic setup, as you can from this snippet
of the printcap (sj-prtsrv-1 is a CNAME):
.server
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/%P
:mx=0
:lf=log
.filter
:filter=/usr/local/lpng/libexec/filters/ifhp
:lpd_bounce
.client
:force_localhost@
mbs:cm=HP 4050N Copy room
:server
:tc=.server,.filter
:lp=172.16.0.241%9100
:ifhp=model=hp4000
mbs:cm=HP 4050N Copy room
:client
:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
:oh=!172.16.0.29
:tc=.client
This happens with all of our AppSocket printers. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
