I am going to be installing a new computer lab, and I'd like to have
a system of charging for each sheet printed.
To do this, I first need to have a queue that will collect, but then
automatically hold, all incoming jobs.
Another computer should be able to contact the server with the queue,
and using a Web browser, be able to see all the jobs, along with who
queued the job and how many pages it will be if printed. This same
method (Web browser) should be able to delete a job from the queue,
and be able to release the hold on any job so it will be printed.
The contents of every job itself will be level two PostScript- the
idea being that it should be possible to parse the job before printing
to determine how many pages are there.
I've seen some pieces floating around that make me think this can be
done, very likely needing only the right config and some custom CGI.
Does this seem right?
Cheers.
