hi,

you get some information from the lpq command, even more information
with lpq -L. HP printer can be monitored also with the hpnp tool which
is available at the HP website. The commandline version is very handy
and can be called by a filter or something else as well. For much more
information (like display messages etc.) you can use the npadmin tool.
