I have a networked (via a dumb printserver) hp deskjet that I am trying to
configure to work with both linux and Windoze, through a linux server.

The reason I want to route the Windoze jobs throught the linux server is to
take advantage of a print queue. The dumb printserver doesn't provide a
print queue, so whenever competing Windoze clients try to print, all but one
of them is locked out. My hope is that I can establish a print queue on the
linux server which can store and forward the Windoze print jobs as the
printer is able to accept them.

I would also like to be able to print to the deskjet from the linux server
itself. I am using apsfilter and a2ps to interface between lpr and the
printer.

My current configuration (which doesn't quite work) is as follows:

raw890 the printer that the Windoze clients talk to; no apsfilter
filtering; forwards to int890
dj890           the printer that the linux server talks to; uses apsfilter filtering;
forwards to int890
int890 the printcap entry for the dumb remote network printserver
supporting the hp890

My thought was that both raw890 and dj890 would feed into the single remote
printer int890, and separately manage their own queues (i.e., one for
Windoze, one for linux). The forwarding process is not being done via a
bounce queue, because apsfilter doesn't seem to work with them; instead, I'm
using an apsfilter feature where I specify REMOTE_PRINTER in an lpr.conf
file.

What happens with this setup when competing jobs arrive is that the second
job gets stalled and "never" prints (never = ~10 minutes). I can force the
second job to print by issuing an lpc kill dj890 job-id# command.
Interestingly (to me, at least) is that there are never any queued jobs in
the /var/spool/lpd/int890 directory.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanx in advance!
