No Problems like this with LPRng. Its mostly a wrong configuration. And
using Windows as a print server-well it was never designed to do that
correctly. I server dozens of printers with LPRng , print streams coming
from windows, as400,aix and so on. No problem deriving from LPRng or Linux
so far, but a lot from windows.

I don't think Lprng in Linux is ready to replace Novell or Windows NT
as a print server in a Windows -centric shop.
When I tried to install it with Samba, I got problems printing from
Excel or Word files into the print queues set up in Lprng.

For example, if I tried to print multiple copies of the same document
- the lprng print queue would hang, then the user had to delete the
jobs, because the accounting created a number of jobs equal to the
copies sent from the windows client.

When I asked the Lprng author about that problem - he said that
Microsoft Excel or Word were broken in the way that they send files
for printing.

The thing is that you don't have that problem if someone uses a Novell
server or Windows server to serve your printers.

Does anyone have any experience like this ?

Any comments ?

thanks,

Juan C. Vergara
