sounds identical to the problem i posted the solution to last
week, lprng is passing a -c option to the filter, which for
ifhp at least turns off most of its actions including
text to postscript conversion. you can prove this yourself
by replacing the filter with a script that dumps it's
return arguments to a file

 in the printcap something like...

 filter=(/full_pathname/debug.sh $* ; ....ifhp $* )

 debug.sh..

  echo running filter on `date` >>/var/log/debug
  echo $* >>/var/log/debug

  you may need to make /var/log/debug first, and make sure any user can
write to it. Also check status files in the spool directory for errors.
 print files locally and remotely and see the difference in the argument
list.

 This will help you understand what is going on! My solution was replacing
the filter with a shell script that stripped out the -c option and then
called ifhp.
