I have just spent two days tracking down a problem with
some very odd behavior in several systems with dynamic libraries.

Ummm... can you say 'library version' problems?  Can you say
"using /usr/local/lib instead of /usr/lib" library.

Next release of LPRng uses (forces? I gotta fix this somehow)
static linking of libraries.
