I've installed lprng on certain machines and recently installed 3.7.4
on an 2.2-based linux machine. All went fine until I tried to print
ps-files created by star-office (using a generic ps-driver)
This files cannot be printed cause lpd refuses to queue the datafile.
I set up a testenvironment
local:
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/%P
:lp=/tmp/print.txt
and can print all kind of files to this dummyprinter. But when I try
to print the mentioned ps-file I get the following error:
# lpr -V -Plocal /tmp/test.pr

when I use gs to convert the ps to pdf and back to ps again I can
print without any problems. I would understand when staroffice
produces bad ps-code that cannot be printed on my printer, but why
does lpd not accept this file with dummy-printers !?
The problem is not reproduceable on my second machine (the only I've
access by now) with a 2.4er-kernel, but it is evident on the first
machine, even after I recompiled lprng
Maybe anyone of you has any idea about this problem and what might be
the reason. If anyone's interested I can put the mentioned test.ps on
my webpage for download to the lab ;)
thnx,
peter
