OK, it's working now. I seems the gs_converter line in ifhp.conf needs to
look like this instead:
gs_converter= /opt/gnu/bin/gs -q -dSAFER -dBATCH -sOutputFile=-
-sPAPERSIZE=\%L{papersize} -sDEVICE=\%s{gs_device} \%s{gs_options} -
