This is what I've added to our printcap for a CLJ4500:
:ifhp=model=hp4500,waitend=ps,waitend_interval=100000
:send_job_rw_timeout#6000
:socket_linger#600
I'm not sure the socket_linger really helps much, but the others are needed to
avoid timeouts like you've reported.
